Lakeridge Elementary Technology Documentation

The following documentation was produced by others and myself to facilitate computer use at Lakeridge Elementary.

These documents are being distributed as PDFs.

For Faculty, Staff, and Students:

Hardware:

Using Condenser Microphones with DV Cameras:  This microphone helps better capture group conversations.

Using Kodak Easyshare Cameras:  A primer on the basics of using this digital still camera.

Using LCD Projectors with iBook Computers:  You can project what is on your screen to a larger screen using an LCD projector.

Using DV Cameras:  You can use a DV camera with your Mac to create movies. These are basic directions for using the camera and connecting it to your Mac.

Using the AverVision 110:  This projector can be hooked up to a television set and can display three dimensional objects on your TV.

Software:

Backing Up Your iPhoto Library to CD:  Your collection of photos is valuable, so you should back them up to CD.

Backing Up to the Server:  The server is a safe place to which you can back up your documents.

Using iMovie:  This document will introduce you to the basics of iMovie and get you up and editing in no time!

Backing Up Your iMovie Projects to DV Tape:  iMovie projects take up a large amount of hard drive space.  You can back them up to a DV tape.

Another Workaround for the Word 2004 Save Issue:  Another workaround that involves changing the name of the document you are trying to save.

Saving to the Desktop and Copying a Document to the Server:  A workaround for an issue that Word 2004 has with saving documents to the server.

Using Spotlight:  Spotlight, part of OS X 10.4, indexes your documents by content to make finding files easy.

Scheduling Equipment Use Through FirstClass:  Take advantage of calendaring in FirstClass to reserve equipment.

Using Document Templates:  Templates are an easy way for teachers to distribute document that they want students to customize.

Importing Patrons into Alexandria:  Here is how to import a tab-delimited text file into the Alexandria Library software to create patron lists.

Creating Mail Lists in FirstClass:  Create lists from groups of people you frequently email.

Using the Kidspiration 2 Publish Tool:  Here are the steps necessary to properly publish your Kidspiration 2 work to a word processor.

Generating Reports from Type To Learn 3:  Student progress can be tracked using these procedures.

Using iPhoto:  Here are the basics of using iPhoto.

Using Image Capture Tools to Build Web Photo Albums:  Every Mac comes with a powerful tool to effortlessly create web photo albums: here is how to use it.

Me and My Shadow: Running Classic with a Shadow File:  Run Classic from a locked disk image, using a shadow file to trick the system into thinking it has r/w privileges. Updated to include directions on mounting the disk image from a shell script.

Using the Radmind GUI tools:  This is a walkthrough/checklist to use when setting up Radmind for the first time.

Run_radmind:  Perl script that I call via launchd to run Radmind on clients. Modified from the original by University of Utah.

Building a Self-Cleaning Oven Model:  How to configure OS X to automagically refresh a user's home directory at log out.

Configuring the T2524 Master/Clock Intercom System:  Using a PC to configure the bells and clocks at your school.
