West Mercer Parent Advisory Information
The West Mercer Parent Advisory is comprised of a representative group
parents and the school principal. We welcome all school community member
to help achieve our goals! Contact your grade level representative for
more information or to talk.
Purpose
The Parent Advisory Committee is an advisory board to
the West Mercer Elementary School's Principal. the Parent Advisory Committee
seeks to assist the Principal in incorporatin West Mercer's beliefs, mission
statement and goals into school programs.
The Parent Advisory Committee identifies and makes recommendations
for school improvements; defines the focus, scope of work of the committee;
aids in the transition of a new principal; as well as considers other
instructional and community issues.

Attributes of Excellence for Elementary Schools
- Children are known and understood by the school with respect to their
individual academic, social and creative needs.
- Children are provided a program that reflects their individual interests,
goals, needs and aptitudes
- Children are provided a rich and nurturing learning environment that
invites risk-taking and self-directed learning and is supportive of
diversity.
- Children are valued by themselves and others and have knowledge that
they are an important part of the learning community.
- Children, staff, and parents are provided a school facility that

West Mercer Beliefs and Goals
West Mercer Beliefs:
West Mercer is a community of caring students, staff, and parents
who share joint responsibility to model, support, and facilitate the
following beliefs:
- All learners succeed in a safe, secure environment where the
individual is valued.
- Individuals learn when provided a variety of equitable and appropriate
opportunities.
- All learners have unique talents which will be encouraged, valued,
and respected.
- Attention must be focused on all aspects of the development and
growth of a whole child.
- Factors beyond the school's control affect learning.
- Communication among teachers and parents is vital to best meet
the needs of students.
- Students progress at different rates but all are able to progress.
- Progression in learning is most successful when critical and creative
thinking are present; when humor is encouraged; and when cooperation,
as well as constructive competition is promoted.
Our Goals:
- To improve all West Mercer K-5 students' student literacy
skills.
- To enable all West Mercer teachers to further develop knowledge
of and skills in assessment focused on improving teaching
and learning.
- To improve communications between school
and home.
- To implement technology use in order to meet district &
site benchmarks while using technology to enhance teaching and learning.
