Welcome to West Mercer,

It is my hope that you will find West Mercer to be a learning community that engages students and their families intellectually and socially in a way that prepares our children for not only a highly successful academic career, but also to be active participants and leaders in our community.

West Mercer is a place that seeks not only to hold high academic standards, but do so in a way that engages the intellect in an authentic manner through learning activities that promote independence, stamina, purposeful use of learning strategies and application to real life problems in a real life manner.

West Mercer is a place that attends to the social development of children.  We believe student need to learn how to show respect, act responsibly, practice kindness and embrace or welcome new challenges.  So we teach children these skills and them to use these skills to make friends, engage the community and emerge as the type of citizen and neighbor that makes our community and society thrive.

West Mercer is a diverse community.  I know that there are even more diverse neighborhoods nearby, but our families come from dozens of heritage groups that tie their lineage to countries throughout the world.  As such we represent all major religions, many languages are spoken in our homes, our home cuisine is amazingly rich and our experience with cultures is an invaluable asset.  And cultural diversity just scratches the surface.  Our learning styles, interests, passions and aptitudes are equally diverse and enriching to our school.  We strive to value all types diversity and utilize our diverse experiences and interests to prepare students to live, study and work in an interconnected, globally integrated society.

West Mercer is a community hub.  Our top-notch staff works closely with volunteers and parents to craft  a place where the community rallies for our children providing a rich learning experience for our students in and out of school, before, during and after school hours.  Partnership and communication are highly valued at West Mercer.

We are constantly reflecting, growing and challenging ourselves to serve every child with our best.  And so I hope that you find West Mercer living up to its aspirations.
