Dear Lakeridge Community,

 

Finally, we are up and running!  Watching the kids arrive today brought a great smile to my face; I GET to work in public education!  Let me be the first to welcome all of our new families to Lakeridge and extend my greetings to our returning families as well.  I look forward to moving Lakeridge forward and strengthening our partnership as parents and educators.

 

Thanks to all of you, we have kept 20 teachers in classrooms across this district that would have otherwise been cut due to the budget.  Our very own school hired a fifth first grade teacher just last week to ensure that our class sizes would remain at the lowest levels possible.  I can assure you that every dollar donated to the Mercer Island Schools Foundation last spring directly supports our kids today.

 

Your tax dollars are hard at work in other areas as well.  The levy passed in February 2010 upgraded our connectivity to a fiber network, which will open our instructional opportunities.  New technology will usher in experiences and opportunities for our students to demonstrate 21^st Century skills!

 

Additionally, the administrative team just completed a comprehensive review of each administrative and board policy.  Some of the practices had not been updated or revised in over 40 years, leaving us out of date and in the dark in many ways.  I encourage you to take time during the year to familiarize yourself with these board and administrative policies and procedures.

• 1000 - Board of Directors - Establishment of the Board of Directors, their authority, terms of office, and structures to guide district business
• 2000 - Instruction - Structure for curriculum development and implementation, co-curricular activities, and reporting student progress
• 3000 - Students - Admissions requirements, student enrollment, withdrawal, and Student Rights and Responsibilities
• 4000 - Community Relations - Public records request, guideline on community use of facilities, and relationships with outside agencies
• 5000 - Personnel - General policies and procedures encompassing the standards and practices of employment
• 6000 - Management Support - Guidelines and procedures to maintaining legal, fiscal, and historical documentation on district management of funds/services
