Island Park Chess Club
General Information
Island Park Chess Club is open to all Island Park students who are interested in learning or increasing their knowledge of chess. Students meet in the school library on Tuesdays, from 3:30-4:45pm. The club is open to students of all skill levels– experts or first-timers with no knowledge of chess– and includes professional instructors provided by Chess4Life.
Island Park chess classes are taught by Coach Gregg Dillingham and Coach Joshua Honeyman. Both have many years of coaching experience and an affinity for chess, but more importantly, an enjoyment for working with kids and helping them to succeed in chess and in life. Chess4Life believes that chess study has shown to teach sportsmanship, critical thinking, teamwork, and pattern recognition among many other benefits. Their curriculum focuses on these principles.
IP Chess Club is divided into two 15-week sessions. The Fall Session runs from September-December and Spring Session runs January-May. Students may participate in as many sessions as desired, and may start at the beginning of any session. Tuition is $200 for each 15-week session. Registration is available at www.chess4life.com.
