We subscribe to these databases.  They are available to students and staff at school, automatically logged in.  Access from outside the Mercer Island High School Library requires a username and password.  Pick up a list at the library circulation desk. These databases rank very high in Credibility, Accuracy, Reliability and Source for academic research.

NOTE: Many more databases are available to patrons of the King County Library System - go to kcls.org or your local branch library and search.

You will need your kcls library card number to access these resources.  Ask Ms. Radow for help using the kcls databases from the MIHS library.

Global Issues in Context

provides websites, academic journals, international perspectives, multimedia, and more on topics.

ProQuest indexes a wide range of magazines, journals, & newspapers, usually providing full-text of articles.

 

HOT TOPICS

Issues & Controversies is an online source of up-to-date, in-depth and objective information on the most prominent and hotly debated issues of the day.

Pro/Con Online strives to provide impartial views of controversial issues. It consists of three separate publications--Congressional Digest, Supreme Court Debates, and International Debates--that explore societal issues nationally, on the Supreme Court, and internationally.

SIRS Knowledge Source provides thousands of full-text articles on social, scientific, health, historic, business, economic, political and global issues. Articles are selected from 1500 newspapers, magazines, journals and government publications plus links to Internet sites.

 

CULTURE, HISTORY & LITERATURE

Culturegrams offers a complete reference on world cultures. Each country’s report contains information on 25 categories, including history, language, greetings, gestures, family, housing, diet, economy, and more. All reports are written and reviewed by in-country experts.

 

SCIENCE AND HEALTH

Teen Health and and Wellness is a database of medical, disease, health, and well being information. It also includes current medical news and information on nutrition and social issues relevant to high school students.

Today's Science gives a balanced, thorough understanding of the latest developments in the world of science. Full-text searching, comprehensive index and integrated glossary are provided. "Hot Topic" coverage with instant access includes biographies of prominent scientists past and present.
