Ways to Stay Informed

Subscribe to E-Mail Lists

MIHS Announcement Listserv: The announcement listserv is a joint project of the school district and the PTSA and is used to augment other forms of communications.  The Announcement Listserv is divided by class and is used to communicate timely announcements and event reminders.  If you are already subscribed to the list, either as a MIHS parent or IMS parent, your subscription automatically continues.   THERE IS NO NEED TO RESUBSCRIBE.

Emergency Listserv: The Emergency listserv is housed by a different organization and is tied directly to the school closure and late start media broadcast system.  If you have not subscribed before or need to add the high school to your list of subscriptions, go to www.schoolreport.org and follow the subscription instructions.

If you have not subscribed before, are new to MIHS, or would like to add a new email address, access the "Emergency and Announcement Listservs" section of the MIHS Home Page.

Stay Connected with MIHS:It may be hard to pry information our of your student, but there are additional ways to keep connected with high school.

  • Volunteer and get involved.  You’ll have the opportunity to connect with other parents while supporting MIHS. PTSA Volunteer Form.

  • Attend the MIHS Open House on Monday, September 26th, to hear from your student’s teachers and to support the PTSA’s Pass the Hat fundraiser (Membership/Pass the Hat form accessible here.)

  • Subscribe to District and PTSA email lists

  • Read the monthly PTSA email newsletter, the Islander Update.

  • Have the MIHS’s student newspaper, delivered to your mailbox each month.  Look for the The Islander table at Open House to purchase a one-year subscription. Don’t miss out on this chance to read about the happenings of the high school from the perspective of the students.

  • Visit this page for updates through the year.

  • Read the MIHS daily bulletin and stay current on MIHS activities and events  Visit the MIHS home page linked to the MISD home page at www.misd.k12.wa.us.

MIHS Volunteer & Visitor Procedures:   Beginning immediately, all parents and community members who volunteer in Mercer Island schools must fill out and sign a state-mandated disclosure form.  Washington State law (RCW 43.43.830) requires that all parent and community volunteers who will have regular access to students, including volunteers who accompany students on field trips, submit a form to their child's school. This will allow the District to request a background check through the Washington State Patrol Criminal Identification Division.

Volunteer disclosure forms are available at each school's main office.  All volunteers must fill out a form and deliver it to the school’s Administrative Assistant prior to the first volunteer activity.  A form must be completed for every school in which a person volunteers.

Please help the District comply with Washington State regulations by completing the disclosure form.  Please remember to sign in at the main office and pick up a "Volunteer" badge to wear.

Also adults visiting the high during the school day are to register in the Main Office and pick up a "Visitor" badge to wear while in the building.  This assists the school in monitoring who is in the building during class hours.
