Welcome to Mercer Island School District’s Green Page

Mercer Island School District is one of 11 districts that have earned King County Green Schools (KCGSP) certification by improving conservation practices and involving students in conservation and outreach efforts.

The mission of KCGS is to:

Initiate and expand waste reduction and recycling practices and other conservation actions.
Involve the whole school community in environmental stewardship.
Operate environmentally efficient and responsible facilities.

Level One focuses on waste reduction and recycling.
Level Two is energy conservation
Level Three is water conservation.

All five schools have reached Level One status. Island Park and Lakeridge have earned Level Two status with the other schools close behind.
