Continuing to Fight Spam Wars - Update December, 2008

Thanks to everyone for working with us to combat spam! The amount of spam littering our mailboxes has decreased greatly since the implementation over a year ago of the Challenge email system.

A feature that we have added to our arsenal this year is the ability of MISD staff to manage their own spam mail. A daily Spam Mail Summary
is sent to their mailbox and staff can see all the mail that they have received in the last 7 days. It has been an eye opening experience to say the least! Teachers can forward any blocked messages to themselves in a much more timely fashion and we feel this has been very helpful, we hope you think so too!

As before, if you have not communicated with a staff member in awhile, or have changed email addresses, you might receive a MISD challenge message. The message is legitimate and all you need to do is reply to the message received. Just click on reply, and send the message back. You do not need to add any information; especially do not create a new message to challenge as that “breaks” the cycle (it is totally automated). Once the system receives the reply then the original message is release and sent on to the intended recipient’s mailbox. You will receive a thank you message in return. You might need to check your spam mail or suspect mail folder for the message, different ISP’s have different names for this folder.

If challenged (or blocked for another reason) your message will appear in the next daily Spam Summary so please do not assume that the staff member is ignoring your message. The summary is received in the morning so they will see the message the next day. If you haven’t heard from the recipient in a day or two consider phoning them.

Thank you for your continued cooperation as we attempt to combat spam. If you have additional questions please don’t hesitate to contact the school district at 206-236-4520.
