Mercer Island Varsity Lacrosse team recently ranked #21 in nation!

The Mercer Island Varsity Lacrosse team was recently ranked #21 in the nation for the 2010 season by US Lacrosse. To come from virtually not being on the radar 10 years ago to breaking into the Top 25 in the country is an amazing milestone. Achieving national ranking reinforces the fact that it takes an entire community to propel a sport’s program to a national level. It requires tremendous commitment by parents, coaches, and of course the players. This is an outstanding accomplishment for our high school program.

The success of the program can be attributed to several factors: an elementary program taught by high school varsity players, a strong middle school feeder system, new turf fields, all supported by wonderful and caring trainers, high school administrators, and District staff.

There is a bright future ahead for the Mercer Island Lacrosse program regardless of future rankings. It is not always about numbers, but more importantly about the quality of the experience and the opportunities we provide to our lacrosse players to enable them to aspire to their potential as both students and athletes.

The Mercer Island School Board will be recognizing our coaches and athletes at the August 26, 2010 meeting at 7 p. m.
